A Live Music Funk Show For All Ages!
The Live Show
Funk For The Family is a live music show designed to engage children and their families through groove-based adaptations of familiar children’s songs, danceable beats, and audience participation.
Founded by Nashville-based jazz/funk musician Kiran Gupta, he created this show after one of the most significant moments in his life: becoming a father.
Kiran quickly learned that there was a gap in the market for family-friendly live music events. Shows were either too late in the evening for kids, or the music for earlier shows were solely focused on children, leaving the entertainment value for the adults an afterthought.
Funk For The Family was built to bridge this gap. With over 20 years of performance, composing, and teaching experience, Kiran and his band have created a safe and enriching space for all ages to thrive. Combining infectious grooves with popular children’s songs and nursery rhymes, Funk For The Family invites everyone to join in on the fun!
Since debuting in the Fall of 2025, Funk For The Family has grown into a critically acclaimed event for Nashville families. Attendance has steadily increased, and more shows are continuously being added due to popular demand.
Our Philosophy: Growth Through Groove
At the heart of Funk for the Family is the belief that groove creates connection.
When families move together, they share an experience that extends beyond words. Live improvisation deepens that experience by allowing audiences to witness creativity unfolding in real time. Children see musicians listening, responding, taking risks, and creating something together that has never existed before.
Each performance becomes a conversation between musicians and audience.
No two performances are the same because no two audiences are the same.
Before children learn language, they know how to groove.
Long before children understand melody, harmony, or musical form, they instinctively respond to movement and pulse. They bounce, clap, dance, and engage with music through their bodies. Groove invites participation before instruction, making it one of the most accessible ways to experience live music.
By introducing children to live improvisation and authentic musical collaboration at an early age, Funk for the Family is designed to encourage creativity, participation, and meaningful connections among children, families, musicians, and their communities.
